Donegal Railway Heritage Museum (Centre)

We had a wonderful visit learning about the history of the Donegal railway. We were impressed by the multimedia aspect, including some original film footage from the 50s. We had a nice chat with Stephen who answered our questions and sent us on our way!

Genuinely fantastic way to spend an hour or so in Donegal town. All of the staff are extremely knowledgeable and friendly, the video and displays on the wall all add to the feel. The interactive cart would be a big hit with kids, it was a big hit with us in our mid 20's!

First of all there is no parking directly outside the museum but on the opposite side of the roundabout there is some street parking (Pay to Park Mon- Sat) and just past the museum there is the St John Boscoe centre were you can park for free. On entering the museum which is the old station building you are met by very friendly and helpful staff. There are a couple of rooms to look around and in one a short film about the line, very interesting as it captures things that are no longer around. There is a carriage outside that has some useful info and a children interaction area. Overall a lovely place to visit and made better because I could bring my dog.

Very enjoyable. Lots of stuff for kids and lots of information for adults. Well worth the price of admission. Just a short walk from Donegal Castle. Cafe right outside. Park a minute's walk away. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

A little gem. This is such a fabulous little find !!! The admission is €5/€4 or €13 for a family - bargain. There's a few interactive things for children, a 50 min video for adults, and old fashioned children's games to play. Little museum rooms to look at, a miniature gauge ride (only 100 yds forward then back). 3 or 4 old carriages, and the locomotive to stand in. All set in the old station house. It's small, but brilliant. And we were made so welcome.

Great little museum for the big and the little. The staff is super friendly and helpful, they offer a ride on a move able Thomas the Engine which is great craic. Overall the museum is nice and cosy, offering a little bit of everything about the old Donegal Railway service. Great little stop on a trip to D'Gall!

People who are aiming to keep history alive, always a plus in my books. This is a brilliant yet sad example as to how Irelands railway use to flourish, while showing how crippled the nations transport system has become. Do not compare this museum with the same capacity that other heritage railways have to work with, its unique in its own way. Go and support the further restoration of the station and its past.
